Ever since my hubby landed his dream job in the field of Law Enforcement my kiddos have been big on anything "cop" related. Then again- I also have my ring tone set for him to be where part of the country song "51-50 somebody call the popo" plays. Then one day I was checking in on one of my favorite sites, The Police Wife Life, and saw her talking about Code 3 Spices. I just knew I had to give them a try!
It all started with 2 guys. Chris, a BBQ enthusiast and grill master, and his friend Mike, a Police Officer of 10 plus years, joined together to create a BBQ competition team. Soon they realized that their spices were well received by the BBQ community. They have since developed 3 highly satisfying, award winning, professional based seasonings. They joined up with a local manufacturer and have brought you Rescue Rub, 5-0 Rub, and the Backdraft Rub. My favorite part (ok besides the fun names) is that Chris insisted that these rubs be made free of Gluten and MSG!
Notice a trend in the name? That is because they not only wanted to bring you good quality blends, but they also wanted to show their support for the men and women who serve as first responders and in the military. A portion of each Code 3 Spice sale is donated to an organization that supports Police, Fire, Medical, and Military.
First being the good LEOW (law enforcement officer wife) that I am, I just had to try the 5-0 Rub. I was making some hamburger pockets one night and thought- what the heck. So while I was browning my hamburger I sprinkled some flavoring on. The result- words can not explain! The meat was so flavorful and amazing! To make the pockets I made some Chebe onion and garlic bread, rolled the dough out into 4 ovals, put the hamburger on it, drizzled some bbq sauce and topped the cheese, fold the dough over lengthwise then seal the edges and cook at the temp and time on the Chebe package. I think this rub would be great in hamburgers
Next we tried the Rescue Rub. This was a more of an all purpose rub/seasoning. It really can be used in anything. We made hamburgers on night using this. I normally add a bunch of different spices/seasonings to my burgers to get the flavor we like. I found this alone did just the trick! The flavor again was just indescribable. I think they really made a difference in the meat!
Last but not least we had the Backdraft Rub. We finally had a day today that was dreary and foggy and cold and just overall perfect for some chili. I mixed some in while browning my hamburger to give the it a bit of flavor. Then I add my tomato sauce and my chili beans. But instead of my usual blend I used the Backdraft Rub. Can I just say that is the perfect name for it! Wow! It is a spicer rub, and gave the chili a nice kick! My hubby loved it and thought it even had a bit of a hickory taste to it. I think I will use this in my chili more often!
Overall, I find these products to be amazing! Not only for the flavors but because of what they support and stand for. I have the hubby's approval on these spices as well. He has already said he would buy them if we saw them in a local store. I am also pleased with how versatile these rubs are!
Be sure to check out the Code 3 website where you can find all 3 rubs and even a matching traveler mug for each flavor! You can also find them on Facebook and Twitter! Right now 30% of ALL online sales will go to C.O.P.S (Concerns of Police Survivors- they support families of fallen officers along with Safe Call Now and Backstoppers).
