Mozzarella Cheese Sticks

One of my favorite appetizers when eating out was the Cheese Sticks. Now that I am gluten free I can no longer enjoy those wonderful gooey pieces of melted cheese and I miss them. So Saturday I was thinking, really how hard could it be to make them? Every recipe I saw required bread crumbs. Well that is out because GF breadcrumbs are to expensive. So I decided it was up to me. After talking with my dad who gave me some tips I knew I could do it and I am pleasantly surprised at how they turned out. This is a recipe I will probably continue to improve but it does the trick and my kids devoured them!

What you will need:

  • 1/4 cup GF Bisquick
  • 3/4 cup GF all purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp garlic salt
  • 1-2 tbsp Italian seasoning.
  • 5 eggs
  • 12 mozzarella cheese sticks
  • oil for frying
Place the cheese stick in the freezer for at least 30 minutes (while you prepare the other ingredients for sure)

In a small bowl mix the eggs and a splash of milk

In another bowl combine flour, bisquick, garlic salt, and Italian seasoning
Start the oil to warm up, cut your cheese sticks in half. Dip into the egg mixture, then coat in flour mixture. Repeat 2 more times (so coat with flour a total of 3 times!) and set on a pan or cutting board

carefully drop 4- 5 cheese sticks in the oil once hot. Cook until it is a golden brown about 3-4 minutes

When frying be sure to watch carefully so your cheese does not start oozing out. Serve with warm marinara sauce!

~Enjoy!~
