Have you ever heard of Kombucha and wondered what exactly it was? Well I did and I have also had a chance to try it.
Kombucha Wonder Drink is a fermented (non alcoholic) sweetened tea that is used as a functional food. It originated in Northeast China and before 1910 made it's way into Russia then Germany and Europe and has spread from there.
This particular brand started with Steve Lee, who is also the co-founder of Stash Tea and Tazo. He discovered this beverage while on a trip to Russia in the 1990's when an elderly woman shared it with him. She had given him some of her started batch and with that Steve began brewing small batches in his own home. Finally in 2001, with the help of a microbiologist and microbrewery experts his Kombucha Wonder Drink was finally born.
Right now they come in 8 different flavors:
- Asian Pear & Ginger
- Traditional
- Essence of Lemon
- Niagara Grape
- Cherry Cassis
- Essence of Peach
- Essence of Juniper Berry, Spearmint, & Lemon Myrtle
- Essence of Mango
All 8 flavors come in a 14 oz bottle while Green Tea & Lemon, Asian Pear & Ginger, and Traditional also can be bought in 8.4 oz cans. The flavors are very strong and very unique!
